The American Society in London is the oldest existing American social and cultural organization in the U.K.
Founded in 1895 by Thomas F. Bayard, U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St James’s, and a group of forward-looking American businessmen, the Society has always embraced membership from prominent and influential Americans expatriates.
Since its inception, the Society’s mission has been the promotion of patriotic and social life amongst Americans residing in London. Each year celebrations are organized by the Society to mark major American holidays including Independence Day and Thanksgiving.
Our founders believed that the best way to demonstrate the true nature and quality of America and its citizens abroad was to welcome the British to our patriotic holiday feasts – a tradition which continues today. Fostering sentiments of mutual respect and affection between the people of two great nations is a worthy mission as relevant today as it was in 1895.
We warmly invite Americans and others with strong ties to the United States to apply for membership.
